Biography
I am a clinical academic at King's College London, with a background in palliative medicine. I am the Laing Galazka Professor of Palliative Care at King's and a National Institute for Health Research Clinician Scientist Fellow. I am also an honorary consultant in palliative medicine at King's College Hospital NHS Trust.
My research interests are at the intersection of palliative care and policy. I co-lead the NIHR-funded CovPall_CareHomes study, which explores palliative and end-of-life care in care homes during Covid-19. I am Academic Lead for the Marie Curie Better End of Life Programme, which aims to understand what it is like to die in the UK, and to frame the results in a way that compels policy action. My research has identified escalating needs for palliative care globally, and inequalities in access to care. I was previously a Cicely Saunders International Scholar (2015-2016) and an NIHR Clinical Lecturer (2010-2015), both based at King's.
My Fellowship explores evidence-informed public and policy engagement in palliative care, with travel to the United States.
