Biography
I am a 2014 Teach First Ambassador, physics teacher and currently the Head of Science at Dixons Trinity Academy in Bradford, a school that serves students from an area of high educational and social disadvantage. Previously, I have led a national project to improve the teaching of maths in physics as part of the Anthony Waterhouse Fellowship with the Institute of Physics. I have delivered workshops at ResearchEd, VicePhec, the Teach First Impact Conference and the Association for Science Education National Conference. I have co-authored a short paper on teaching particle detectors at a secondary-school level that was published by CERN.
My Fellowship aims to help make physics more accessible for secondary-school students nationally by improving the teaching of physics.
I intend to find out: what makes effective physics teaching; how do other school systems train their physics teachers, both as part of initial teacher training and as part of in-service teacher's CPD; are there ways of reducing physics teacher workload through effective teaching resource sharing; how can we support teachers of physics who teach in a disadvantaged context.
