Education in schools

Education in schools

Introduction

In 2020, we launched a three-year programme of Fellowships focused on Education in schools.

A Fellowship funds you to spend 4-8 weeks meeting and learning from leading innovators in your field around the world in order to share and implement that learning in the UK.

In this programme, we are seeking applications on any topic related to improving or transforming how children and young people learn in schools. More information is below and you can sign up for application alerts by email here.

Please share information about Fellowships by sharing and downloading this pdf.

We particularly welcome projects that help children to enjoy good mental health, or projects that address the widening attainment gap affecting disadvantaged pupils (especially in STEM subjects). These may include applications that seek innovative ways to better equip and empower teachers to support the wellbeing and education of their students.

Fellows in this programme form part of a dedicated community specialising in this area, with tailored opportunities for support and networking in this field.

This programme is offered in partnership with the Mercers’ Charitable Foundation.

Note for applicants: If you are proposing to visit Finland, our experience with previous Fellowships has shown that the education system is very different and unlikely to be transferable to the UK context. We therefore only accept proposals that focus on specific educational projects in Finland, rather than on the education system overall. Please also note that Finnish schools receive numerous requests for visits from international educationalists so you will need to have approached the schools or projects in advance, and have an agreement in principle for a visit, before submitting your application.

Fellows awarded in previous years have carried out projects in this area. See some examples of their impact stories here.

We recognise our responsibility to the environment through our Fellowship programme and our operations. Our progress on this is explained here.
