Biography

As a deaf person I care passionately about the barriers that deaf people face in their daily lives and am dedicated to identifying those barriers and working with stakeholders to decrease, remove or eradicate them. My Fellowship is centred around understanding the structural and societal barriers and disadvantages deaf people face and learning from global best practice how we can empower deaf people to overcome them.

Deaf people are immediately starting two steps behind, with less or no access to meaningful language at home, poor provisions of education, low expectations and inappropriate or ineffective support. My work takes a holistic approach to address self-esteem, sense of a community, levels of expectation, and access to information, skills and tools to equip deaf people with what they need to thrive and succeed.

Having the support of the Fellowship has propelled my work and supported me in taking meaningful steps to provide impactful support and advice to the deaf community.
