Biography

I am a committee member for Women's Archive Wales, and a PhD student in the School of Art at Aberystwyth University. I completed my Masters degree there in 2020. My last employment was as a lecturer in that department. Until the age of 60, my career was in education. I was a headteacher in a secondary school for 15 years. During my time there, I was awarded two Masters degrees: the first was a classroom-based enquiry, the second was concerned with the implications of 'one size fits all' education policies for unique local communities. As part of British Council headteacher delegations, I gained insights into education in Melbourne, Eindhoven and Tomsk. I extended that experience through long-term links with a school in the Bronx. Educational issues, I can report, are the same for communities across the world. My Fellowship enabled me to study indigenous culture with Amerindians in the Guyanese jungle. I learnt about sustainable ways of life devoid of the environmentally destructive conveniences of Western capitalist lifestyles. The Fellowship embedded in me values that have informed my thinking and my actions ever since.
