I am currently Deer Officer for the UK's largest shooting and conservation organisation, The British Association for Shooting and Conservation.

I was awarded my Fellowship in 2010 while working for the Ramblers. My focus was on comparing safety and training for walk leaders in the UK and New Zealand. My aim was to compare and contrast the two countries in how they recruited and trained walk leaders, and the roles that health and safety played in each as we were meeting with resistance from Ramblers' members and leaders who felt risk assessments and compulsory training would ruin the 'fun' aspect of the Led Walks programme.

I was made redundant from the Ramblers before I actually undertook my Fellowship. However, I have been able to use the lessons learned from it during my ten years at BASC, as I deal with a range of volunteers and contractors, the issues surrounding health and safety and risk reduction being just as relevant today.

My Fellowship stood me in good stead to prepare risk assessments and methodologies for working with these various volunteers, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity my Fellowship gave me to broaden my experience and expertise in this field.
