Biography

I am Director of Strategy and Development at Development Media International (DMI). I graduated in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, after which I spent several years at the BBC, where I was a Radio 4 Producer. I wanted to bring together my background in science and health with my experience in radio, and the Churchill Fellowship provided an amazing opportunity to achieve this ambition.

My Fellowship concerned engaging audiences using radio in Malawi. As part of my Fellowship, I carried out research and capacity building projects with the community radio sector in Malawi. As a direct result of my Fellowship, I went on to work with maternal health radio programmes in Commonwealth countries, and then joined DMI, an exciting young organisation working on an ambitious trial to test whether a media campaign could save children's lives. Through this trial, DMI was able to show that media can change life-saving behaviours. As Director of Strategy and Development for DMI, I create the partnerships and generate the funding streams to run more life-saving campaigns. Since I joined DMI, they have expanded their work from just one country to nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
