Biography
I am a mountain rescue drone pilot in the Search & Rescue Aerial Association Ð Scotland. The area I aim to develop is the use of drones in fire and search and rescue, and the creation of basic principles and procedures for open access to drone pilots.
Although drones have been used for search and rescue for a number of years, their use is still in its infancy. Limited procedures are available with many teams working in isolation. To gather information globally would immediately enhance drone pilots' response in the UK to a range of disciplines such as fire, urban search and rescue, missing persons, hazardous materials and a range of other incidents.
With my fire service background and having been part of developing search procedures in my own search and rescue drone team, I feel that others can benefit from a set of principles in a range of disciplines. The principles will go through a proof of concept process in a range of practical workshops with the final documents available to all fire and search and rescue drone pilots across the UK. This will result in a safer and more efficient response.
