Biography
I am a medical practitioner at NHS Lothian and a specialist member of First Tier Tribunals for Care Standards and Primary Health Lists. I published Life Preserving Techniques and the Care of Casualties at Sea (1974).
At the time of my Fellowship I was a medical student at Edinburgh University. Our family home in North Berwick was close to the harbour and it was natural to develop many interests around the sea, swimming, sailing and fishing. When old enough I became a crew member of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and trained extensively in rescue techniques, care of casualties and the science of drowning and hypothermia, combined with my medical studies. I later became interested in medical aspects of sport scuba diving during a post in the Cayman Islands.
