Biography
I completed my Fellowship in 2001, travelling to New South Wales (Drugs Court of Parramatta) and Queensland (Brisbane Drugs Court). My research theme was the Concept and Practice of Drugs Courts in Australia. I published an article on Drugs Court of New South Wales at Parramatta in the Northern Ireland Legal Quarterly (NILQ), Vol 55, No 2.
I was called to the Northern Irish Bar (1972), Gray's Inn London, the Bar of Ireland. I was appointed Queen's Counsel (1988). I was part of the Youth Conference Advisory Group and Criminal Justice Advisory Group on Drugs, Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Institute of Criminology at Queen's University, Belfast (2002-2013); a Bencher of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland (1997) and Treasurer of the Inn (2009); a County Court Judge (1990-2013) and a Deputy County Court Judge (2013-2019) (Jury Trials).
I am President of Addiction NI, Chair of the Board of Ulster Youth Orchestra (since 2015) and a Trustee of North Belfast Working Men's Club (since 1973).
