Biography
I am a public policy consultant whose work focuses on building the investment case for a just climate transition and to protect and restore nature. Market-based mechanisms have emerged globally in an attempt to increase flows of private capital towards nature protection. Natural capital markets facilitate the buying, selling, and trading of nature-based assets, such as improved water quality or increased biodiversity, with the aim of realising financial returns to further attract funding to restore and protect nature.
From the tangible market price of a timber harvest or catch of fish, to imperfectly valued ecosystem services, or the numinous joy many feel at just being in nature, I am fascinated by the value we place on the natural world and the implications for policy and capital allocations.
I will visit innovative programmes at the forefront of natural capital markets to understand how they were designed, what did (or did not) make them work, and the impact this has for investors, local communities, and nature restoration outcomes. I will bring this learning back to the UK to help translate findings into recommendations for practitioners.
