I am the Founder and Director of The Loss Foundation, a national cancer bereavement charity, and also a clinical psychologist with a history of providing support and consultation in the NHS, private and third sectors.
My Fellowship explored bereavement support designs across the USA. The purpose was to learn about the support being provided across a variety of leading organisations in the USA, and to bring back recommendations and learning points for the UK, which has an increasing scarcity of bereavement support.
The death of my father to cancer in 2008 led to me founding The Loss Foundation to fill the gap in cancer bereavement services in the UK. The Fellowship was employed to help me think about how to transition from running a local charity to a running national charity.
As a result of the Fellowship, I have redesigned the structure and activities of The Loss Foundation to reach people across the whole country, allowing us to be a national cancer bereavement charity. This has allowed thousands more people a year to have access to bereavement support after a loved one dies of cancer.
The Fellowship inspired me to be bold and progressive.
