Biography
I am the Founder of ICAAN, an organisation that supports individuals who are in the criminal justice system or at risk of entering it. I am also a case manager within a local authority, working in the Reducing Youth Violence and Exploitation Service. I have worked in the criminal justice system for over 13 years, with experience in a range of settings from prevention services with children to the adult custodial estate. I am passionate about creating a justice system that brings healing, reconciliation and accountability for all impacted, as opposed to the current punitive approach.
The focus of my Fellowship is long-term imprisonment. My project explores how restorative and transformative justice approaches can reshape the UK's response to long-term incarceration and its wider impact. I will travel to the USA, Australia and New Zealand to learn from those affected by long-term imprisonment and from the origins of restorative and transformative justice. I hope to encourage meaningful dialogue between those incarcerated and the community, inform policy and practice, and support safer, more inclusive communities.
