Biography

I am the CEO and lead psychotherapist for the military mental health charity Veterans at Ease.

The theme for my Fellowship was mental health and in 2012 I travelled to the USA and Canada to research the use of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) with war veterans. This was a subject close to my heart as the use of NLP effectively saved my life after my experiences of combat between 1992 and 1993 during the Bosnian War.

As a result of my Fellowship I set up the charity Veterans at Ease and have so far helped nearly 400 men and women, including some family members, deal with psychological issues after their time in service. Our figures show that 87 per cent of people who engage in our services are, at the first session, considering suicide as a way to end their pain. Thankfully we have a 100 per cent record in keeping these 87 per cent alive.

In 2016 we became the first military charity to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. We are very proud of this. In 2018 we set up a social enterprise and opened our first charity shop in Whitley Bay, which helps support the clinical side financially. We are opening up two further shops and looking to expand to Norfolk too.
