Biography
As a publishing director, I currently lead a literary list with a focus on amplifying underrepresented voices. Through founding the Black Britain: Writing Back series with Bernardine Evaristo, consulting on the Lit in Colour campaign, and serving as a trustee at English PEN, Creative UK, The Brilliant Club, and on the Booker Prize Advisory Committee, I have seen first-hand the barriers that stand in the way of a truly representative, inclusive English curriculum that supports engagement for all students.
My Fellowship will take me to Australia and New Zealand. Australia is the only other nation to have run a National Year of Reading campaign, and New Zealand is a pioneer of inclusive education reform. Together, they offer an unparalleled opportunity to learn from publishers, policymakers and educators about how inclusive curriculum reform and national reading strategies could drive real change across English education in the UK.
With the UK's own National Year of Reading taking place in 2026 and a curriculum review underway, I'm excited to discover the lessons this research might hold for UK classrooms at this pivotal moment.
