Biography
I have been a concert organist since 1980, and am additionally both a practical examiner and theory moderator for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I was born in west Wales, being brought up solely in the Welsh language until the age of eight.
I was awarded a Fellowship in 1987 on the topic of preparation for international music competitions. I entered the Chartres International Organ Competition but because it could not be guaranteed that I would win a prize I committed, irrespective of the outcome, to recording a recital on the organ of Chartres Cathedral, thereby providing something lasting to show for my Fellowship: this was issued on compact disc by Priory Records in 1989. Following this wonderful opportunity offered by the Fellowship, I have made a considerable number of recordings for the same label, and enjoyed a recital career which has taken me all over the world.
I have also enjoyed performing as a soloist under conductors including Matthias Bamert, Sir Roger Norrington, Tadaaki Otaka and Sir David Willcocks, the last of whom kindly invited me to be the organist and accompanist of the Bach Choir, London in 1991, a post which l held until 2010.
