Biography

My Fellowship was about exploring methods and processes in Danish children's theatre: "Cutting it down and cutting it out, daring to do without, and from almost nothing, managing to tell it all" (Danish director, Gitte Kath). My experiences in Denmark led to me founding Lyra – a leading Scottish theatre company making performance with and for children.

Originally trained as a director at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, I have worked in theatre, dance and design, with a focus on work for children and teenagers. I have created Wild Heart, We Are All Just Little Creatures (with Curious Seed and Lung-Ha's Theatre Company), This Way Up, Helen's Letters, Lone Wolf, Pigeon and Hush for Lyra. I have worked with Irish dance-theatre company Junk Ensemble as dramaturg (The Veiled Ones and Dolores), co-creator (Bird with Boy), designer (Sometimes We Break, Tate Britain commission) and director (The Rain Party).

I have directed for Kopergietery (Belgium) and Catherine Wheels (Scotland) and am former Director in Residence with Imaginate and National Theatre of Scotland. I was a Fresh Tracks Europe choreographer in 2013 (Vienna) and am the recipient of a Dewar Arts Award.
