Biography
I retired from full-time work as an operational manager for Natural Resources Wales in 2015, but remain active as an environmental consultant on a part-time basis. I also volunteer as Chair of the Severn Estuary Partnership, which acts as a sustainable development strategic setting partner and facilitator for all interested parties in the Severn Estuary and inner Bristol Channel.
My original Fellowship in 1988 focused on EU environmental law enforcement on waste and air pollution across different levels of governments. At the time there was a raft of new EU environmental laws, but little knowledge as how they were being implemented across Europe. I visited five EU member states and spent time with both central and local government agencies to learn how they co-ordinated their enforcement efforts.
Many valuable lessons were learnt which helped me promote greater focus and consistency in enforcement for the rest of my career. My specialist knowledge relates to organised environmental crime and community engagement associated with contentious sites and topics.
