Biography
I am a clinical scientist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with many years of experience in bringing AI into healthcare, from developing AI tools locally to assessing commercial systems before they are introduced into clinical practice.
AI is increasingly being used to help clinicians interpret scans, prioritise urgent cases and support treatment decisions. However, while considerable attention is paid to the development of these systems, there is much less focus on how they should be monitored once they are in everyday use. Without ongoing oversight, harmful changes in performance can emerge gradually and remain undetected.
Through visits to leading organisations in the USA and Canada, I will explore how hospitals oversee AI in real-world healthcare settings and respond when performance changes over time. I intend to use these insights to support the development of practical approaches that help ensure healthcare AI continues to deliver safe, effective care for patients long after it has been introduced.
