Biography

My passion is sketching and painting the world around me in my sketchbook diaries. Since my Fellowship in 2001 I have worked as an artist, before that I was as an architect.

Under the theme of Adventurers and Expeditions, I visited UNESCO World Heritage Cities and Sites, completing 106 watercolour sketches, 42 of which appear in my published book, A Fellow Traveller.

In London I was artist in residence at the Athenaeum, the Palace of Westminster, and MCC Young Cricket Artist at Lord's. One of my paintings commissioned by the Churchill Fellowship was presented to Her Majesty the Queen in 2006. Four of my sketchbooks have been published – two volumes of London in Landscape, Stamford Sketchbook and A Fellow Traveller.

Now in Stamford, I lead street sketching workshops and community art events. During the Covid-19 restrictions this was online for Mindspace, a local mental health charity, and Stamford Arts Centre – simply 'drawing what is on your table'. I undertake commissions and illustration projects. In 2018 I became a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA).

I am grateful to the Churchill Fellowship for this unusual artist's adventure, for changing my life and enabling me to share architecturally artistic skills in such positive ways within the community.
