Biography

I am an educational researcher and policymaker who visited Australia, New Zealand and Singapore to learn about the leadership of future-focused schools.

My Fellowship was inspired by my experience working with school leaders in economically disadvantaged areas. The English school system wasn't designed to fit the lives and needs of many of their students. These educators want to develop intellectually curious, culturally confident and empowered students, but are constrained by success being measured via exam results.

Australia, New Zealand and Singapore have a set of 21st-century competencies for students to develop alongside academic knowledge. I visited schools serving economically disadvantaged communities to learn how leaders can create educational environments where students develop the knowledge and competencies to thrive as empowered, global citizens.

Through my Fellowship I identified a distinctive set of leadership behaviours that create a culture of innovation in schools. I've since worked directly with school leaders, guiding reflection on these behaviours. I have published my findings in magazines and journals and presented them at international conferences.
