Biography
I am a food systems expert with a focus on sustainable, ethical food supply chains and citizen-led policy change. In my role at Sustain I demonstrate the alternatives to the extractive food system we have today and build campaign messaging and policy briefings by running pilot projects to demonstrate the opportunities that alternative food supply chains can offer. I have a background in food growing, education and network coordination and I was Co-Director at OrganicLea, a workers' food cooperative.
I am driven by the belief that everyone should have the right to access food that is good for the planet and good for health. In the UK, profit is being extracted from food supply chains, leaving both producers and customers worse off in the long term. Food supply chains that are farmer focused and not-for-profit will be integral to a transition to a low carbon economy that is fair and equitable. I will visit collaborative and cooperative organisations that have an agroecological focus in France, Spain and Brazil to learn how they benefit both producers and consumers.
