Biography

I'm an artist interested in how history is carried and evolved through everyday materials, trades and craftsmanship. I work with specialists to develop sculptural and performative works that amplify the relationship between materiality, memory and tacit knowledge. I have worked with specialists across disciplines, for example: brickmakers, quarry workers, stone masons, archaeologists and bakers.

Through my Fellowship I travelled to China, Peru, the Netherlands and Belgium to investigate the history of bricks and their architectural deployment in different cultures and historical periods. My ongoing research is disseminated through an evolving site-specific talk responding to the locality in which it is performed, and I have presented it widely across the UK. Through this I hope to encourage people to consider the important craftwork of bricks, brickmaking and bricklaying.

Alongside sharing the findings from my Fellowship research, I have exhibited my work at: 5th Istanbul Design Biennial, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, V&A, British Museum, Delfina Foundation and Site Gallery. I was awarded the inaugural Jerwood New Work Fund and the Dover Prize 2021.
