Biography
I've been working in different forms of media for 15 years. This includes children's books and live-action films, but the industry most close to my heart is animation. I've worked for every major studio in the UK in various roles. In 2017, I started teaching animation on the side and in 2022 took the plunge and set up my own animation studio, Alchemy Studios Ltd, of which I am the Director.
A key factor in that decision was seeing how many people were burning out and leaving the industry, and wanting to do something to change that. As I was working with young people, I could see their talent and passion, but preparing them for an industry that wasn't built to support them didn't feel right. What I'm looking to achieve with this Fellowship, in the broader sense, is to learn from animation centres in the USA and France, with the outcome to eventually connect with funders in the industry and use the learning to develop talent and create innovative projects to pitch to funders. Ultimately this would provide a practical skills focused pathway for more diverse voices into the industry, and to help them stay for the long haul, despite socio-economic status, level of education, or neurotype.
