I am the Founder and Chief Executive of Food Behind Bars, a registered charity dedicated to transforming the food served in British prisons. I am passionate about prison reform, human rights and access to healthy, exciting and good quality food. I started campaigning for an improvement in prison food back in 2016 when I was working as a journalist. After years of immersing myself in the subject, I established Food Behind Bars as a charity in 2020. We now work with men's and women's prisons across the UK on a variety of food-based projects, each designed to improve the quality of food served and increase access to food education.
I am so excited to take my work internationally, by using my Fellowship to spend time in prisons across Scandinavia. I will be researching how the subject of food is approached in Scandinavian prisons, and how it's used to support the health, wellbeing and life chances of prisoners. I want to bring this experience back to the UK and incorporate it into our work at Food Behind Bars, as well as influence future public policy. I can't wait to expand my knowledge of this subject by travelling, learning and being inspired to increase our impact here in the UK.
