Biography
I am a self-employed independent safeguarding consultant, specialising in organisational safeguarding, consulting with organisations about the adequacy and effectiveness of their safeguarding processes and procedures, researching and publishing on the topic and providing training and presentations to disseminate the learning.
My Fellowship in 1991 was to study the treatment of sexual offenders in North America. I spent the majority of my employed career in various roles at the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) as a practitioner, team manager and operational assistant director as well as service, practice and in policy development relating to child sexual abuse and sexual offending. I am a former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sexual Aggression and former Chair of the National Organisation for the Treatment of Abusers (NOTA) and I am now designated a NOTA Fellow. Between 1999 and 2018 I was a visiting research fellow at the Centre for Applied Childhood, Youth and Family Research, University of Huddersfield.
Much of that activity was as a result of my experience on my Fellowship, which gave me new perspectives, enduring professional relationships and amazing memories.
