Biography

I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and have been practising in Poole Hospital since 2000.

My Fellowship was carried out during my orthopaedic training and its aim was to further my understanding of the Ilizarov technique of bone fixation using external frames. I went to the Ilizarov Hospital in Russia and also visited an experienced Ilizarov surgeon in the USA. I was already using the technique in my training and gained very useful experience of the technique by visiting these two very different sites. I also gained a lot of personal experience, especially during the Russia trip.

Since the Fellowship I have become a consultant and have continued to use this technique to treat my patients. It allows me to treat some of the worst injuries of the limbs in a safe way, with accelerated rehabilitation for the patients. The Fellowship experiences are with me every day of my professional life and I am a better surgeon as a result.
