Biography
I am a consultant in forensic psychiatry in Hampshire and work in the specialist community forensic team. I have had a longstanding interest in safety and human factors and have researched the methodology of mental health homicide inquiries in the NHS and systems for victim support in England.
The system in the UK, which has not changed much since its inception in the 1990s, will benefit from an international perspective. My Fellowship will therefore focus on learning about systems for investigating mental health homicides and support for bereaved families in other nations.
This is important because each mental health homicide leaves behind multiple victims in the form of bereaved families, and inquiries have a significant impact on safety of mental health services in the NHS and public policy.
