Biography

I am the Founder, Artistic Director and joint CEO of Brighton People's Theatre.

My Fellowship explored the potential of legislative theatre to create policy and social change in a UK context. I spent time with the late Augusto Boal and the Centre of the Theatre of the Oppressed, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and with David Diamond and Headlines Theatre in Vancouver, Canada.

I was interested in discovering whether this unique approach to policy creation could be useful in the UK. I came to the conclusion that while it could be an empowering experience for some participants, its impact on the policy field was limited.

Having the time and space to learn and reflect in this way has been invaluable to my career. My focus has now shifted to focus on the systemic inequalities in the theatre sector itself. I established Brighton People's Theatre as an attempt to role model a different way of producing and consuming theatre. We enable professional and non-professional artists to co-create theatre.

We are constantly learning and always reflect on and develop our practice. Do please check out what we are up to and get in touch if you would like to know more.
