Biography
I am a UK-registered architect and project manager working for Health Estates, Department of Health, Northern Ireland, where I lead major healthcare construction projects. I come from generations of builders, and from a young age I developed an appreciation for materials - their value and purpose. Many building materials are ultimately discarded. I therefore want to help advance the circular economy in the UK construction sector through policy and implementation, so that materials can remain in a loop of reuse.
The focus of my Fellowship is to learn how the Netherlands has progressed the circular economy within its construction industry - from policy to practical implementation. My aim is to bring back insights from the Netherlands to help further the development of a circular economy in the UK construction sector. I plan to do this by collaborating with the Dutch Government, educators, architects and industry professionals to understand how they have successfully worked together to deliver circular outcomes. I will explore how policy, incentives, design for deconstruction, recycled materials and modular construction have aligned and could inform similar practices in the UK.
