Biography

I am a consultant occupational physician who examines both for the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and also for the Society of Apothecaries of London.

My Fellowship encompassed teaching, learning and examining best practice in diving, hyperbaric and tunnelling medicine in three different jurisdictions.

The purpose of my Fellowship was to provide a knowledge base and syllabus and examination structure for a UK-based postgraduate medical diploma in these three subjects under the auspices of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

Although appropriate committee meetings have taken place, the impetus to formulate such a diploma has eased off as the perceived demand from intending diplomates has declined over recent years.

Nevertheless, the foundation basis of the diploma remains as shown in my Fellow's Report, plus changes in health and safety regulations and industrial injuries benefits which have taken place since the Report was published in 2014, as well as further evidence-based guidelines on the management of decompression sickness in remote or austere environments. Thus, the diploma can be revived if demand increases.
