Biography

My Fellowship in 1992 enabled me to travel across Scandinavia to look at their urban transport systems. As a result I wrote Road Pricing – Theory and Practice, published by Thomas Telford.

As a designer, I trained initially at Arup, and have been responsible for and practising in the planning, design, development and project management of major building and infrastructure projects worldwide.

I have both a Master of City Planning (MCP) degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and Master of Arts (MA Oxon) in Engineering Science and Economics. I am also a chartered engineer and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

I have practised in the UK and widely across Europe and the USA. As part of multidisciplinary design and construction teams, I have been responsible for the planning, design and realisation of both private and publicly financed facilities and urban infrastructure.

I have just published a new illustrated book entitled Design and Order: Principles in the Planning and Making of Place, published by Wiley-Blackwell.
