Biography
The objective of my 1986 Fellowship was to look at the idea of a major police museum in London as a tourist attraction. My journey took me to the USA (Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia) and Canada (Toronto, Regina, Calgary, Victoria) looking into the working and layouts of their police museums.
Much was learnt and many ideas incorporated into the planning of the proposed Met Police Museum. Unfortunately, the go-ahead was declined after eight years of planning, in favour of a new fleet of police vehicles. Vital police work took priority.
I was however able to later offer my advice in the making of a Police Mounted Branch Museum at Imber Court in Surrey, which was visited by Her Majesty The Queen, and also a new museum at Bovey Tracey in Devon.
