Biography
I am a mental health wellbeing and recovery activist.
My Churchill Fellowship was to the USA in 2010. Its purpose was to look at alcohol and addiction recovery and recovery advocacy in US cities and find out what lessons we in the UK might learn from them. During my 35 days in the USA I was able to visit more than 40 recovery projects in six US cities.
The findings from my Fellowship are set out in my blog which includes a wide range of film clips and interviews with the projects I visited, as well as both a category and a keyword search facility.
At the end of my Fellowship I recorded a short film clip about key lessons learnt. It can be accessed from this page, or can be found on Youtube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWFVjwGxRs4).
I am a person in recovery from addiction and this, together with many years' experience in the third sector, is what inspired me to apply to travel to make a difference through my Fellowship. Many of the findings from my Fellowship are still relevant today.
I currently volunteer to support people in recovery, and at projects to help prevent suicide and to help young adults with autism or learning disabilities find paid work.
