Biography
I undertook my Fellowship in 2019, to explore good practices in neonatal organ donation in North America. I hope that my findings will help to support healthcare professionals in the UK to more confidently and routinely address organ donation for end-of-life neonatal patients.
I was inspired to undertake my Fellowship through my experiences of critical care, public health and neonatal nursing. I noticed that whilst there are many young babies and children awaiting transplants, infant donors are very few and far between. Furthermore, some parents of end-of-life patients want to be offered the opportunity to donate their child's organs and help to save the lives of others.
I visited neonatal units and organ donation organisations in North America to find out more about what they do to facilitate the process for professionals and parents.
