Biography
I am a professor of digital forensics at the University of Southampton, where I work in a field that investigates digital evidence to support criminal, civil and intelligence cases. My Fellowship focuses on an often overlooked but critical issue in our profession: mental health.
Digital forensic investigators are exposed to highly disturbing material, intense workloads and heavy responsibility. Over the years, I've seen how this can take a serious toll, with burnout, isolation and long-term trauma being far too common. Yet meaningful mental health support remains rare and inconsistent across the sector.
Now that I've achieved my dream of becoming a professor, I want to use that platform to drive change. I've spent years as a workaholic, focused on getting here, but this Fellowship gives me the chance to step out, to live a little, and to be brave for a cause that truly matters. I will explore how other countries support digital forensic professionals and identify best practices that can help us improve in the UK. I aim to develop a set of practical and compassionate recommendations to protect those who help protect the rest of us.
