Biography
I am currently involved in a number of charities as a board member, including for special needs children. I sit as a Presiding Justice in the magistrates' court and as a specialist member of the Mental Health Tribunal Panel.
My Fellowship was related to services available for special needs children in Pakistan and Kashmir.
This followed my setting up of the Khaas Opportunity Group for Asian Children in the City. The parents of this group wanted information and a directory of organisations, both NGOs and GOs, which they could access easily when they visited Pakistan, should their child or children become ill.
I spent a total of six weeks visiting major cities in Pakistan and Kashmir, looking at the provision of services for the hard of hearing and sight, and for the mentally and physically disabled. Access to some areas was difficult and an army escort was required to ensure safety.
As a consequence of this visit, a video and a directory of organisations was made, which is available for use by both the community and health professionals. Two schools have linked up with those in Pakistan to exchange work practices and visits by teachers and pupils. I have gained more knowledge about various disabilities.
