Biography

My Fellowship looked at nature conservation and countryside access across the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden to see how they involved people. My career has been in countryside management, mainly protected landscapes in East Anglia, seeking to improve the environment for people and planet.

The Fellowship provided the opportunity for me to see the differing ways in which these countries tackled caring for their countryside, allowing access to it, and instilling a sense of interest in people. From Nature Guides in Denmark to the philosophy of Everyman's Right in Sweden, there was much to enjoy and apply to my work in the UK.

I have now retired but still seek opportunities to interpret the countryside to people so that their enjoyment, understanding and desire to care for it is increased, along with continuing with voluntary practical action. I especially encourage people to change their behaviours to tackle the climate emergency.
