Design, colour and embellishment for church banners
Biography
As a paediatric sister working in an Emergency Department, I use my creativity skills in teaching patchwork and quilting, making church banners and dressmaking to de-stress and relax during my days off.
I had the amazing chance to visit the USA to study and explore Colour, Design and Embellishment of Church Banners. This in turn established and confirmed my skills and abilities, opening up many opportunities to display banners and undertake commissions to design and make them for organisations or memorials following the deaths of loved ones. This has expanded into quilts and keepsakes for parents who have lost children or children who have lost parents and I incorporate their clothes into these quilts.
One banner was commissioned for SAMS (The South American Missionary Society). The banner they requested was taken out to Paraguay with a volunteer team who went to build a church and install the banner there. I started a local course called Permission to Play, giving individuals the ability and materials to be creative with different mediums, paper, paint, felt, shower curtains and fabrics.
Currently I lead a group of 70 ladies in a patchwork and quilting group called PieceMakers.
