Biography
I am a school nurse from the Orkney Islands. The purpose of my Fellowship is to visit island communities in Greenland, Sweden and Nantucket, to learn about what life is like for young people there, and what supports are being put in place in terms of suicide prevention.
The number of people dying by suicide in the Orkney Islands is higher than the national rate in Scotland. I have felt the impact a suicide can have, both as a professional and on a personal level; I have felt and seen how suicides can shatter a small community. I am extremely motivated to share my learning from this experience within my local community, and hopefully drive forward some change in the way young people are supported.
