Wynford Ellis Owen (CF 2010) has been honoured with the 2026 Times Sternberg Active Life Award. The award recognises outstanding contributions to public life and the community made after the age of 70. Established in 2008 by Sir Sigmund Sternberg in partnership with The Times, the awards celebrate individuals whose later years have been marked by exceptional service, innovation and impact.
For more than a decade, Wynford Ellis Owen has been one of Wales’s most influential voices in addiction recovery. After a distinguished 40-year career in theatre and television as a writer, actor and director, he retrained in addiction counselling and went on to found the Living Room, a pioneering peer-led recovery centre supporting people affected by addiction across Cardiff and beyond.
Wynford was formally recognised at a reception hosted at 11 Downing Street by Michael Sternberg, Chair of the Sir Sigmund Sternberg Charitable Foundation.
