New Advisory Council Member

New Advisory Council Member

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Noel Nelson to our Advisory Council – the expert body that helps shape the direction of our Fellowship.

With their knowledge and experience, Council members help us to identify emerging trends and needs in society, around which we develop our range of current Fellowship programmes.

Please join us in providing a warm welcome to Noel – an environmentalist with a background in Physics and specialism in air quality. He has worked at the Met Office for over 30 years during which time he worked on short- and long-range dispersion modelling, weather and health relationships, climate change impacts on industry, atmospheric transmission of animal diseases, and policy related air quality projects.

Noel was seconded to Defra’s Air Quality Policy Team where he managed several contracts and contributed to the development of the National Air Quality Strategy. Later working for the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution he helped craft several Command Reports.

He was the Chair of the Institution of Environmental Science (and current Vice President) and one of the founder members of the Institute for Air Quality Management. Recently he was the Senior Supplier for the Met Office Strategic Priority Fund Clean Air Programme and is instrumental in the development of the Clean Air Charter legacy plans which will involve the IAQM, the IES and the Met Office. Most recently he was appointed as a committee member to the Welsh Clean Air Advisory Panel, providing advice on air quality related policy to the Welsh Government.
