Biography

I am a peer support co-ordinator at the charity Together for Mental Wellbeing. My Fellowship was for researching best practice in addressing educational disadvantage. This involved studying the schooling systems on the east coast of the USA, specifically Maryland, New York and Washington DC.

The purpose of my Fellowship was to establish a means of integrating educational practice from the USA to the UK through shadowing, interviewing, classroom presence and travel with young people.

I understand and appreciate the importance of education in my life and in my career to date. Although I am no longer working as a formal educator, this trip empowered me to impact upon people's lives and encourage positive change through implementing my learning from my travels.

I qualified as a lead classroom teacher of children aged 4 to 11 at the Institute of Education, now a part of University College London. The transferable skills from my time in education have led to my current progress as a mental health professional. I have been able to use my learning to support the progress of young people both inside and outside of school settings both in the UK and abroad.
