Biography
I am the Director of 108 Fine Art.
My Fellowship allowed for the study of contemporary mosaic-making and the restoration of historical mosaics. I became interested in mosaics through being involved with a project in the early 1980s as part of a regeneration of certain housing and communal areas in Dundee.
Since then I have continued my interest in the making and conservation of mosaics. This interest in conservation led me to study the conservation of paintings, an area which I have worked in for the past 35 years.
The Fellowship allowed me a wholly unique opportunity to look at a wide range of fine-art conservation specialisms and to consider ways in which I could develop a career in conservation, combined with my interests in contemporary art.
In the early 1980s finding a career path in the arts was an extremely difficult road, and with my limited experience and skills the Fellowship helped provide a sense of credibility, allowing me to be considered for postgraduate training courses in conservation, and was helpful in general when looking to be considered for employment within the museum world.
The Fellowship kick-started my career.
