I am retired, and living in Thailand. My 50-year career started in the fire service in Cheshire in 1966 and ended following a contract in India as a vice-president of health, safelty and environment in 2017. My Fellowship served me well in my career. I received respect and trust coupled with a deep sense of pride in my association with the Churchill Fellowship.

Back in the early 1980s my teenage son played competitive ice hockey in Scotland and he generated my initial interest in the sport. I was (volunteer) bench trainer to my son's team and public relations representative to a Scottish First Division team (which went on to win the British Championship).

I applied for and received a Fellowship to go to the USA and Canada to study junior development in ice hockey. The award was recognised by my (then) company and they gave me the time off to complete the study. A copy of my Fellow's Report was presented to, and accepted by, the British Ice Hockey Association (BIHA) in 1986.

Subsequently, my career took me to distant countries where ice hockey was not played and I no longer had the opportunity to implement the content of my Report. I understand, however, that the BIHA followed some of the Report recommendations.
