Biography
I was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study container plants and a Nuffield Farming Scholarship to study propagation and growing techniques in Europe.
Throughout my career I served with a number of organisations: I was Chairman of the Garden Centre Association (1970-1971), President of the International Plant Propagation Society, Great Britain Group (1972-1973), Chairman of the National Farmers' Union (NFU) Nurseryman's Committee (1995-1996) and President of the European Nursery Association (1999-2001).
In 2012 I was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour (VMH), the highest award bestowed by the Royal Horticultural Society, restricted to 63 individuals at any one time. In 2015 I funded a Churchill Fellowship in the annual theme of Horticulture.
