Biography

I'm an entrepreneur by nature with experience of starting businesses related to sea food and the land. I am co-founder and owner of Anglesey Sea Salt Company, known as Halen Mon, Wales' leading sea-salt maker. I have also acted as Chair and Treasurer of LLyn Parc Mawr Community Woodland Group, a non-profit organisation.

My Fellowship was about transferring oyster-growing and aquarium technology from Japan to Wales. In the event I learnt more about sea-salt at a Museum of Salt in Tokyo and this led to the creation of Halen Mon, which now employs over 20 people. I really cared and care about rural jobs and sustainability.

The Sea Zoo, which was our aquarium, focused on a conservation message and over the 23 years we ran it, we interacted with over two million visitors. I like to think that it influenced some of those people and certainly some of the 300 people we employed on our island over the years.

The Fellowship had an impact on me at a critical mid-stage in my life, after which I focused on a global view. This matters in a climate emergency. I was honoured to receive the Queen's Award for Sustainability, and an MBE.
