Using valid research-evidence to inform crisis interventions with children
2014
I am a consultant clinical psychologist, specialising in working with children, young people and families who have experienced traumatic events, particularly domestic violence and family homicide. I am also Co-Director of the UK Trauma Council, a project that provides a platform for the leading experts in child trauma to collaborate and produce resources to help those working directly with traumatised children and young people.
My Fellowship was about early interventions following traumatic experiences – how can we provide an environment after traumatic events that are most likely to help children and young people recover. After my Fellowship, some colleagues and I piloted an effective early intervention that reduced the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In 2018, following this pilot, we launched the UK Trauma Council.
