Biography

I'm a self-employed consultant, teacher and trainer, working in a variety of areas including education, equality and diversity, mental health awareness, young people and community engagement. I live in west Wales, have a number of volunteer and board roles and can often be found in my garden or doing DIY jobs, very slowly.

My Fellowship was linked to my studies and work at the time and I wanted to investigate the differences in forensic science approaches between the USA (New York and California) and the UK, particularly the specialism of geo-forensics (mud, sand, rocks, dust, etc).

I met several skilled investigators and learnt about approaches to the criminal justice system and the inequalities which led me to work, train, teach and now volunteer in this area. I was in New York City in the aftermath (two weeks) of 9/11 which was strange and eye opening, and probably led to a slight change in aims of the project during my time there.

The Fellowship had a huge impact and eventually led me to reassess my career and where I wanted to direct my energies. I have recommended it to many young people, to promote the opportunity and increase the socio-economic diversity of applicants.
