Occupational therapy: improving the hospital/home interface for older people
Supporting the health and wellbeing of older patients by applying occupational therapy techniques

I am an occupational therapist working in both the NHS and the independent, or private, sector.
My Fellowship in 2011 enabled me to travel to the University of Southern California to learn about the lifestyle redesign approach developed at the university, which is a leader in both occupational therapy and occupational science. I was particularly interested in whether the approach could be used in hospital discharge for older people.
Organisational reorganisation and a decision to branch out into the private sector has meant that I now work in a different clinical setting, but I found the learning I gained has been invaluable in many and often unexpected ways.
My experience of the Fellowship was incredibly positive and I hope to remain in touch with the organisation in the future. The whole experience was so inspiring.
